Shall I compare thee?

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" or winter's night?

Shall I compare thee to an open book or a closed door?

Shall I not compare thee to inanimate objects?

Well shall I compare thee to a dog or a cat?

Or perhaps to a cow or a shrimp?

Oh! Shall I not compare thee to animals?

I understand.

Shall I compare thee to my past lover or my fantasies?

Shall I compare thee to my dream person and make sure you please me?

Shall I ignore your thoughts and your inputs on me?

I know!

I shall compare thee to your ambitions, dreams and hold you accountable.

I shall support you and growth as a person as I grow myself.

I shall listen and advise you to the best of my abilities and I hope you do the same for me.

Shall thee forgive me for past statements and move forward with me?

Shall we move on to where we understand and respect each other's boundaries?

I shall not compare thee to a summer's day!

This poem was based off of William Shakespeare's sonnet XV111. I decided to look this lovely poem from a different angle and see maybe a negative connotation and see the repetition of comparison to things and how it affects us, whether it is positive or negative. Enjoy :)!

Hi, fellow Weirdo.

My name is Just Arie. I am a lover of art, I love the simplicity of poems; so little diction but is so powerful.
